Paradise on Earth Continued

As I write this and look out on the sun setting on the mountain outside the window, I truly feel like I'm living in paradise. Santa Rosa is such a beautiful place, with golden hills all around, sloping mountains that beckon you, temperatures to die for, gorgeous wine vineyards and some of the friendliest people you'll meet, right here. There is a never ending list of things to do and see, most all of which are outdoors, which is just what I like. You don't find many people sitting in front of their tv's here, there's just too much to enjoy outside, and that's where everyone is! It's wonderful. Sort of reminds me of my growing up days in Chicago when the children were all called in for dinner and then after dinner, everyone, including the parents, went outside. The parents would sit in their lawn chairs in the driveway (we didn't have porches) and sip glasses of ice tea and talk to one another and the children all played hide-n-go-seek. I loved those days. Here it is that way. Everyone is outside on their decks, or their walking, biking etc. It's so darn hot in Florida that people stay indoors to escape the heat. Not here and I LOVE that! Anyway, I'm thankful for the treat that it is to come to this lovely place, relax and enjoy my surroundings and my sister and brother-in-law. I'm blessed beyond what I deserve. Today was a layed back day. Errands this morning, Curves, a couple of games of ping-pong at the rec center, lunch out, then the pool, then home for dinner on the deck and a few games of cards. What a life, huh? I learned to play canasta tonight. I'm not too good at it, but I'm learning. I'm posting more pics of Yosemite and some of the other places we saw from this past weekend, as I just had SO many more good ones I didn't post. Hope you enjoy them. Thanks for your comment Deb! I giggled when I read you couldn't wait to see "where WE'RE going tomorrow!!" That was so cute! I enjoy reading your comments so much. I forgot to post the picture of the coyote that we saw but it's tough to see him in the picture. He was as big as a German Shepherd but didn't really pay my sister and I any attention. It was cool and another one of my animal sightings that I so adore! I'll put it up, but you'll have to click on the picture (it's the dark one) and enlarge it so you can see him. The picture that shows a huge meadow with two people walking (Pat & Bob) and the mountain in the distance is Tuolomne Meadow. That's where we took the hour or so hike and I took pictures of the butterfly and flower I posted yesterday. It was a gorgeous walk. The photo with the lazy creek in the foreground and the mountain in the distance is Tuolomne Meadow also. GORGEOUS! You'll also see one of one of the final views we had on the drive back down Tioga Pass of Half Dome and El Captain mountains together in the shot. It was breathtaking. You cannot fathom how huge these things are until you are there, but trust me, they're thousands of feet high and unreal! Also you'll see a shot of me at the pool today. It was a wonderful day for it and we enjoyed it tremendously. EVERY day is a good pool day here! Guess that's it for tonight. It's after midnight for all of you. Hope everyone is well. I miss everyone very much. You're all on my mind constantly, especially my grandchildren. I MISS them so much it makes my chest hurt and my eyes drip tears. Doesn't seem possible that I've been here 8 days already. We still have so much to do! Their county fair started yesterday and we're going tomorrow night. Their church worship band will be playing there and their church family will be there so I believe we're all going to be a part of that! I'm excited! It's gonna be hard to not jump up there and sing with them! I miss singing on our Praise Team and look forward to being back with all of you.
Lord bless you all...hugs and kisses to Charlie, Bradlie, Natalie, Lindsey, Amber, Madison, Butch, Karli, Easton and Titus. I MISS YOU ALL!

Still on a "YOSEMITE HIGH!"

After 3 days in Yosemite, I feel as though I am still on a "GOD HIGH!" WOW, WOW, WOW and WOW! If you've ever been, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't, you need to make it a priority in your life. It is truly more than amazing! The splendor and glory of an Almighty God is magnificent. Everywhere you look, you "see" God. I would gaze from one view to another, constantly marveling at a God whose hand could be so mighty, so skilled, so perfect, that He could do what I was witnessing with my eyes. From the tiniest flowers on the ground and the most beautiful butterflies, to the solid walls of granite that towered thousands of feet over my head....I marveled and was speechless. (I know that MOST of you would not be able to believe that I could EVER be speechless...but I was.) All I could do was stand and stare, cry, and sing praises to God. Several times I just had to break out singing, "How Great is Our God" as I walked and gazed at the beauty of it all. I found myself hearing my son singing, "Indescribable" in my ear and thinking that those words to that song were so true....INDESCRIBABLE was what I was seeing. El Captain, Half Dome, Bridal Veil Falls....How did HE do it all? One day, face to face, I shall ask Him. God is a genius!!!!! My first view of Bridal Veil Falls was just breathtaking. I just stopped on the pathway in, gazed ahead and started snapping pictures. I'm posting pictures but they don't appear to post in the order I put them in, so what I describe probably won't be in order. The first one though, is my sister and I as we stood at the beginning of the walkway that takes you into the park and Bridal Veil Falls. I was so excited I could hardly stand it and couldn't wait to get closer to the falls and WE DID! Of course, the two of us decided we'd climb the big boulders, along with a lot of other people, and try to get closer. Next you'll see some of those shots. Following, is a couple pictures of Cathedral Spires, that actually is 2 pictures. One is of the spires and the second would be the right half of the cathedral span. Next you'll see a couple shots of Half Dome as well as El Captain. We also took a drive into the Mariposa Grove, home of the giant Sequoias. They are massive trees. If I remember correctly, there are only 6 places that these giant sequoias grow. Pretty impressive. Next you'll see some shots of the the wildlife/flowers/insects that I was priviledged to see. First, let me give praise to God!!! I asked Him to let me see a bear. Ok, ok....I know some of you think, OH GOOD GRIEF BARB....but I can't help myself. It appears that until I die, I will be a nature freak. Nature fills my heart with such joy and I always feel God's presence and glory through the creatures He so beautifully created. I JUST LOVE IT. Soooooooooo, I asked Him to let me see a bear and He DID! We were driving through Yosemite, which consists of thousands of acres of land, and there he was, off the side of the road! The only decent shot I got, wasn't too good, but it's of the bear! If you look closely, you can see it appears he was lifting his foot and maybe licking his paw or eating something off of it. He'l in between the two trees on the right side of the photo. You'll also see some of the gorgeous deer that are everywhere, some of their strange looking squirrels, a beautiful butterfly and a lovely and delicate purple flower in Tuolumne Meadow. I was in hog heaven with the variety of animals and plant life that I saw. Next you'll see me standing in front of Tenaya Lake. It's got to be close to what heaven is going to look like. The water in this lake is incredibly clear and blue. WOW! NExt is some pictures of some of the sights we saw on the about 1 hour drive through Tioga Pass. Tioga Pass takes you up, up, and further up to an elevation of over 9,000 feet ABOVE Yosemite, where you can view Half Dome and Yosemite below. It's incredible! The first is of my brother-in-law, Bob, and I at one of the pull off places, called Olmstead Point, where these amazing shots were taken. That's Half Dome, way below in the distance!
Gosh, I suppose that's enough pictures for now as I've been working on this for quite some time now! Hope everyone enjoys the pictures. Let me hear from you! I miss you all so much but know that soon I will be home again and will be able to look upon your sweet faces.
On the way back from Yosemite today, we stopped at the Jelly Belly Factory. OF COURSE I had to buy a pound of my favorite jelly bellies....Buttered Popcorn, Chocolate Pudding, Dark Chocolate and Cotton Candy! YUM!
Tomorrow we'll go watch the girls in the ballet class again, then we're going to play ping-pong with Bob and maybe the pool later. Gee...it's hard work, but somebody's gotta do it!!
To all my RRC family...thank you for your prayers...don't stop. I love and miss you and wondered how our services went Sunday. I miss being a part of our services. They're the best on this earth.
Love to you all. Remember to be thankful for that which God has given you and be thankful for ALL that He has given us ALL in the beauty of this world. We are so blessed and oftentimes don't even see it. Godspeed until I see you again. Will post again tomorrow. Oh yeah, by the way, it's a GORGEOUS 72 degrees here! Eat your heart out!
KEEP IN TOUCH!

Me and "CUTIE"

Greetings from the beautiful state of California! When I say beeeeeutiful, I do mean beeeeeutiful! This area where my sister lives is paradise. The land is so beautiful and there are so many things to see and do you couldn't in a lifetime do them all! This morning, we are leaving for Yosemite and I can't wait!
Isn't "CUTIE" adorable!!!??? Alright, alright.....I DO realize that not ALL of you appreciate all of God's creatures on this earth, but I do! CUTIE is one of them. He belongs to my 5 year old great-nephew, Nico. He is so proud of his pet and of course, Aunt Barb had to give CUTIE some lovin! He is a Yellow Bearded Dragon and really is adorable, in a sense! Here's Nico with his prized CUTIE.
Next is a picture of my wonderful neice Meredith with her daughters Gabrielle and Kali. Aren't they adorable? This was taken right after their ballet class. They are precious. Here's Gabrielle doing her "plia" for me!
Next you'll see Taz, myself and Nico, just chillin out. They are the sweetest boys and I'm enjoying them so much.
Yesterday, Trish, Meredith and I had a girls day out. It was wonderful. We spent some time in Ross, buying shoes, of course, then had a wonderful lunch and headed to a gem fair. WOW, talk about a plethora of beads!!! It was great! Angel, you would have LOVED IT and I wish you could have been with to share in the fun! Then we headed into San Francisco. Here's a shot of the Golden Gate just as we were approaching it. The morning fog had not yet burned off and you can see it hanging in the air. Also a quick shot of the "Crookedest Street in the World." Walked around for a bit and then we had tickets to a hilarious show. Afterwards, we drove through China Town and thenn finished up the day at Cheesecake Factory. Got home around midnight after a great day.
This morning we are heading to Yosemite, where I'm sure I won't want to leave. You guys all know me, a nature freak if there ever was one! The display of God's splendor and glory throughout nature is overwhelming to me. I am amazed at how God put it all into place. Here at my sisters house the view is so gorgeous that just sitting out on the deck is a treat.
Well, all for now. We're getting ready to get out the door and onto the road to Yosemite. I'll post Tuesday when we get home as I don't think I'll have a way to post there and share pictures with you all. I love you, each and everyone. Meredith says to say hello and she loves all her cousins and Nico says he'd like to meet Easton! Those two have a lot in common. My heart aches for all of you, especially my grandchildren. Keep Yaya in prayer and know I am praying for all of you. Lord bless and keep each of you until I see you again. God is so good and I'm so blessed. I love you....Numbers 6:24-26.

A Piece of Heaven!

Good Morning All! Woke up this morning snuggled underneath my down comforter, with the window open and the wonderful cool air surrounding me! MAN did it feel good. I would say it was in the 50's. There's virtually no humidity here, nor any bugs to speak of. You hardly ever see flies and knats and no see'ums seem non-existent. The best part is there's no yellow flies! It's great! I'm having a wonderful time already. Met my new great-neice and great-nephew yesterday and had a blast with them. They are the brother and sister that my neice and her husband adopted from Ethiopia. Precious children who I instantly felt bonded to. Taz, Nico and I spent a great deal of time catching lizards in the yard. The girls and I danced and sang together. It was wonderful. Taz is 8, Nico 5, Kali 4 and Gabrielle 3. What adorable children they are. Can't post any pictures until I buy a card reader so I can get the pics downloaded off my camera. Keep watching though cause I took a bunch of great shots yesterday, as well as some adorable video of Kali and Gabrielle taking their ballet class!
Today is a day at home as my sister has some people coming to replace the glass in her sliding door. Her home and yard is lovely and I feel like I am in a piece of heaven here! I could sit out on the front deck and stare at the mountains forever or I could go out back and enjoy the flowers and yard AND the serenity forever. It's so peaceful and beautiful.
Tomorrow we will spend the day with Meredith, my neice for a girls day out. We're heading to a gem fair in San Rafael and then into San Francisco to do some poking around, dinner and then a play. Can't wait. I love the city and all it has to offer but the best is just spending time with my sister and my neice. It'll be a great day.
Sure do miss all of you back home and am constantly wondering what everyone is doing. Today was Itchatucknee day with the youth and once again, I didn't get to go. I hated it. Last time it was planned I was out of town too and it's such a fun day withh our youth. Ah well. HOpe it was a great day for everyone, as I know it was.
All for now. I'm going to get ANOTHER cup of coffee and go sit on the deck! Thank you Lord for the beauty of this place and the priviledge and coming and being here. You're such a good God and bless me with so much more than I deserve.
Love to you all! Godspeed until I see you all again.

California, Here I Come!!

My last "sleep" is only moments away and when I awake, it will be the day I have long awaited! The day I get to see my sister again! This occasion always is spoken of in an excited tone of voice, with a little bit of jumping and flailing of the arms on my part! It's hard not to! After all, we're sisters. Now you might be thinking...Hmmmmmmmm, sisters huh? Well, I have a sister and I DON'T FEEL THAT WAY AT ALL. All I know to say to you is that I'm so sorry you don't have what me and my sisters have. We're blessed to love each other, care about each other and be involved in each other's lives. Over the years as I've heard story after story of other adult women who do not have a relationship with their sister because of past problems or whatever, I realize even more, how precious my sister relationships are as the years go by. We are now almost 62, almost 60 and 55. Time is short...life is short and my sisters are extensions of myself who complete me. I will continue to nurture our relationships as long as I live and I will continue to thank God for giving them to me.
Sooooo, as I lay down for the last night here at home for 23 days, I'm already dreaming about being there in California and picking up where Trish and I left off the last time. At next writing, I'll be on the Pacific Ocean side of the USA and will be posting what I'm up to for those who might be interested.
Oh yes, I'm the baby in the "old" picture, in the middle. The other picture was taken last year on our "Sister's Trip" at our cabin in Indiana and there I am in the middle again. That's Trish (Pat) on the left and Lou on the right, in both pictures also. By the way, if you have a sister you haven't talked to in a while, why not give her a call and renew your childhood relationship? You might be very glad you did.

4 More Sleeps

Alright, for those of you who don't speak my language, simply put "a sleep" is obviously equal to one night. Let me explain further. Sometime, long ago when my children were little, I began using that phrase as I thought it would help them better understand the concept of how long I or whomever, would be away. I thought if they could think of how many times they had to go to bed at night and "sleep" they could better comprehend how long something would take. Believe it or not, I use it also for my African Grey Parrot, Jake!!! I know, I know, you think I've lost what little bit of brain I have, and that isn't much, but it's true. Greys are extremely intelligent birds and whenever I'm going out of town, I tell him how many sleeps I will be gone. I suppose I should get on with the point I'm trying to make before you think I'm a lunatic who talks to her bird and her grandchildren now, the same way!
Anyway......4 more sleeps......4 more sleeps you ask until what???? Until I leave for California! I'm going to see my oldest sister and I can't wait. Time spent with her is precious and every moment is cherished. It doesn't matter whether we're just sitting side by side, shopping, talking, or doing any of the millions of other things we enjoy doing together, what matters is that we're together. I board the plane on Tuesday and I'm so looking forward to my trip. We shall travel to Yosemite for my first visit there and I'm over the top excited about that! I will be posting pictures to share with you, whoever "you" are!!! Anyway, so 4 more sleeps until I leave. I suppose I shall always use this adage and I'm not even sure where I got it from. I might have even learned it from my sister, I really can't remember. I just know I use it now with my grandchildren and the bird and....okay................okay.........................the dog too! Alright, I admit the dog probably doesn't understand the concept of "sleeps" but I'm sure she understands at least part of what I'm saying and there's no doubt she understands what's happening when she sees the suitcase going out the door. She's not totally stupid you know!
Well, it's time for one of my 4 "sleeps" to take place and the quicker I lay down, the faster I can say it's only 3 more "sleeps." Please keep in touch with me while I'm gone as I will miss everyone here at home. Here I come sleep #4!!!

GOD is Speaking

As my dear dear friend coined it...."the self-pity fairy" has been after her. Boy, can I relate to that statement. My friend Deb is one of the funniest and most lovable people I know. Being in her presence is being in a state of constant laughter. When I am with her, there's joy unspeakable. On the outside, you would never ever know the "self-pity fairy" had been taunting her. But he taunts us all and tells us lies that we fall for. None of us can see the inside of another. None of us can know what hurt lies within, what disappointment or pain. Many of us cover it with laughter and bright smiles for everyone, but inside, we're crying. I know, because that's where I am too. I'm fighting and I'm pushing through, but I'm there too dear sister-in-Christ and friend whom I love so much. I believe with all my heart that our responsibility to one another as friends in Christ, is to encourage one another as well as confide in one another when need be. Not that we should sit and have pity parties together, but confide in someone so that we may lift one another up. Sometimes satan loves us to keep silent and hold it all in and all the while, he pulls us down even further as we sink deeper into darkness. God is speaking to us constantly....through the Word, through our pastors, through our friends, through our children, through nature, through music. He speaks constantly to us....I feel sure that He YELLS at us sometimes and yet, we choose not to hear Him. God is speaking to you my friend and He's saying.....I LOVE YOU. And I love you too. I encourage anyone who reads these pitiful thoughts of mine to be attentive to our friends and families needs and be willing to step in and help with a word of encouragement, a word of truth, and words of life. What we have to say may be just what needs to be heard at that moment. Let us love one another enough to be there for the other and step up to the plate with love and open arms. God is speaking....I love you.

Butterflies and Flowers

As I strolled outside with little Titus just a while ago, he was enthralled with a beautiful butterfly as it fluttered close to us, hung in the air over our heads and then continued on its' journey. Out went his little pointer finger as he stared with glee watching it until he could see it no more. Then came that sweet smile and his best mutterings possible to let me know he enjoyed the fire out of that! We continued on with our walk to "see what else we could find." As I rounded the corner of the house, his little pointer finger immediately went out as he showed me the flowers. Once again, the smile was there and his eyes remained glued on the flowers, drinking in their color. As I watched him watch the flowers, my mind was filled with thoughts of the simple things in life that we take for granted and forget to be thankful for. At my sisters house in California, there are hummingbirds everywhere! They zoom from feeder to feeder, tree to tree and will fly directly over your head as you sit on their front deck.(One of my favorite places to sit) I am amazed at the hummingbird and its' ability to fly when science says that it shouldn't be able to, but God says it can! I can sit for hours and watch these birds and ALL of nature and take it all in. Many of us are too busy and forget to really look at our world and all God has created through the eyes of a child. Wouldn't it be wonderful if at adult age, we could continue to be just as enthralled with butterflies and flowers as 1 year old Titus was this morning? Here's to hoping that the next time a butterfly passes by, you'll really take the time to stop and watch it's beauty and its' flight pattern and then stop and consider the God who created this beautiful little creature.

Broken Chains

WOW....today I was made aware of something I did that was totally by accident and unbeknownest to me but could have been very hurtful to someone I love and respect very much. It seems that I have spent a liftetime, and that's a LONG time, trying to do my best but always seeming to miss the mark. I have strove hard to never do anything out of anger, envy, jealousy or hatred. I've learned to measure my words before they leave my mouth, most especially when it comes to something serious that needs to be said. Trust me, I've put my foot in my mouth way more times than I care to remember or even be reminded of. Because I know myself, I've learned to try to consistently cover my own tracks, if you will. I find myself going back over and over and over again any project I might be working on or something someone's asked me to do etc. Because I know I mess up often, I work harder than probably most people to NOT mess up! But, here I am again....faced with yet another mess up. I'm trying to cover my tracks while feeling great embarrasment and disappointment in myself, once again. The only good thing about this difficult situation is that the one whom I unknowingly hurt, offered sweet words of kindness and forgiveness, actually feeling worse for me as she knew I would be embarrased of my mistake. How I thank God for her she shall never know. The sweetness that dripped from her mouth was like a sweet smelling balm to my heart that was aching for what I had done. I am so delighted to know this wonderful woman and to see her growing in Christ week by week. She consistently exhibits godly character and a great love for Christ and walking in His path. I appreciate her love and forgiveness that she poured over me and will continue to hope that one day, I don't have to work so hard to not mess up. I'm not a negative person......but I truly don't see that ever happening, but I will at least continue to try to do my best. My father always used to tell me that IF I had done my best, then that was all I could do. Bless his heart, he always knew that my best was never as good as my sisters best, but it was the best for me, and so he was satisfied.
Thank you my dear sweet sister-in-Christ for loving and forgiving me. I hope if anyone who reads this realizes there is someone you need to forgive, you'll give it some thought. This woman could have held me in chains and shackles with anger, unforgiveness and hatred....but she chose NOT to. She released me from what I had done and did not make me "pay" for it with her actions. Who do you need to forgive and release today? It's time to set someone free, just like my friend did for me. Break the chain of unforgivenss today.

Cristo Te Ama

Gloria a Dios! Jesucristo te ama! OK, OK....I KNOW I'm back home in the good old USA, but after a week with our youth in Honduras, I'm still getting back into the routine of speaking ALL English! As I started out with, GLORY to GOD! Jesus Christ Loves You! Those words were spoken many times by our youth over the past week as we journeyed to San Pedro Sula and beyond to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I have never been more proud of our youth than last week. I watched them physically be the hands and feet of Jesus as they ministered to so many children over the week. The love I saw in their faces, the pride that they laid down, the joy that they spread was unbelieveable. Many times as I watched and video taped them, I silently cried in thanksgiving to God for what I saw Him doing in them. Their willingness and zest to serve in whatever capacity was asked of them was beyond believeable. The days were hot and long but they didn't complain, they just kept digging in. My heart is filled with pride to know, love and work with these youth. Knowing the future of our church is in their hands fills me with hope and joy. These are the future leaders of our church and our community, godly mothers and fathers, Sunday School teachers, and ministers of the Gospel. I am proud to know each one of them and feel tremendously honored to have been a tiny part of this, our very FIRST YOUTH MISSION TRIP TO HONDURAS! Way to go RRC Youth! I love each of you and challenge you to continue in your quest to know Christ better, serve Him more and love Him deeper. Don't forget what you learned so many miles away, don't forget to pray for those you met and don't forget that the mission field is wide open, not only in far away countries, but right here at home. Thank you Lord for all youth who love Jesus and live out that love for Him day by day by day. I am blessed to know and love you all and thank God for you.
